WORKING IN NORTH VANCOUVER
Which Bridge Decides the Day
There are two North Vancouvers, the City and the District, and two ways in. The second split matters more to us than the first.
Over the Lions Gate
That's the western half. Lower and Central Lonsdale first, where the City is densest and most of the towers are. Down by the Shipyards and the Quay it's condos with service elevators, parkade clearance bars, and dryers venting into shared stacks with a secondary lint trap somewhere behind the machine. Give us the building name when you call.
Further up the hill it turns into houses. Upper Lonsdale, Delbrook, Edgemont, Canyon Heights. Older detached homes, a lot of them on a slope, a lot of them with a gas fireplace in the living room that hasn't been serviced since the last owner. Pemberton Heights and the streets near Capilano Road are the same story on flatter ground.
Over the Ironworkers
The eastern half, and a different feel. Lynn Valley around the village on Lynn Valley Road, Lynn Creek, Maplewood, then out along Mount Seymour Parkway to Seymour and Dollarton, and finally Deep Cove at the end of Gallant Avenue. Family houses, big yards, forest right up to the back fence.
And the thing that runs across all of it
The North Shore is wetter than the city across the water, and the forest holds that damp right against the houses. Moss on the roof, cedar needles in the gutters, crawlspaces that never quite dry out in Lynn Valley and Deep Cove. It shows up as a musty smell when the furnace first kicks on in October, and as mud walked into carpet off the trails at Lynn Canyon every weekend from spring onward. If either of those sounds familiar, mention it when you book.
